DEMI MAZURKA
Demi Mazurka is the alter-ego of Mark Zuidema (Mercy Giants) under which he makes use of his songwriting skills on the piano. Using only minimal accompaniment consisting of jazzy drums and upright bass, he constructs his atmospheric compositions. Think Mark Hollis (Talk Talk) and Erik Satie.

Pien Feith.nl is alive!

pienfeith

Badmintone artists seem to be spawning their own websites all of sudden. Just after Roy Santiago claimed his domain, Pien grabbed hers. Her website keeps you updated on her new record, for which 24 songs have now been written. Recordings will commence in a couple of months. Tentative release date is January 2010. There is also word that … and the bloody hand will soon start his own website full of free downloads.

Tomorrow, she will perform three new songs (in a stripped-down fashion) with Melvin Wevers on the Amsterdam Wereld Boekenstad Festival. She will also play the song “Near the Water” an interpretation she did of a Harry Mulish Poem for Poetracks.

Go visit pienfeith.nl
Oh yeah she is also twittering..

A cold month

The worst part of playing shows across the ocean is that you have to go there and go back. It takes eight hours by plane and that’s not too bad. Not cool though, is the fact that I’m writing this while I should be asleep. It’s 07:30 in the morning and I have nothing to do for the rest of the day. Sucks.
The best part is: everything else! You get to meet great new people, eat, sleep and see great bands for free (most of the time), and to do shows at places you’ve never been before. Refreshing. And then there’s the fact that the US has three (3!) HBO channels, a lot of quality recordstores and a lot of things to see. And you know what? The stories about US beer tasting like cold rainwater aren’t true. There are a lot of small companies brewing great refreshments.

We toured from Chicago to NYC with quite a few stops on the road. We did a lot of things like visiting the Hershey Chocolate factory and the White House, getting pulled over by a Sherrif, see Anthony and the Johnsons in New York, watching the Superbowl finals and visiting a bunch of museums. We did our tour as if it was a holiday.

We met a lot of great bands such as Power Animal (from Philadelphia), Bronze Float (from Indianapolis, currently), DM Stith (who did his second show EVER and Justin Vollmar played some drums), Justin Vollmar, The Raise up Roofbeams (from Harrisburg) , Sonoi (from Chicago) and many more! And then there were also al lot of other people we met who didn’t play in bands but were still pretty cool.

But man, februari was a cold month!
