In a not so distant past, Roy Santiago was one hell of a blogger. When he stopped blogging, we all missed his funny stories and remarkable analyses. But don’t weep no more, he is back. roysantiago.nl is in the air. Expect new blogs, updated information on all his musical endeavors and much more.
The worst part of playing shows across the ocean is that you have to go there and go back. It takes eight hours by plane and that’s not too bad. Not cool though, is the fact that I’m writing this while I should be asleep. It’s 07:30 in the morning and I have nothing to do for the rest of the day. Sucks.
The best part is: everything else! You get to meet great new people, eat, sleep and see great bands for free (most of the time), and to do shows at places you’ve never been before. Refreshing. And then there’s the fact that the US has three (3!) HBO channels, a lot of quality recordstores and a lot of things to see. And you know what? The stories about US beer tasting like cold rainwater aren’t true. There are a lot of small companies brewing great refreshments.
We toured from Chicago to NYC with quite a few stops on the road. We did a lot of things like visiting the Hershey Chocolate factory and the White House, getting pulled over by a Sherrif, see Anthony and the Johnsons in New York, watching the Superbowl finals and visiting a bunch of museums. We did our tour as if it was a holiday.
We met a lot of great bands such as Power Animal (from Philadelphia), Bronze Float (from Indianapolis, currently), DM Stith (who did his second show EVER and Justin Vollmar played some drums), Justin Vollmar, The Raise up Roofbeams (from Harrisburg) , Sonoi (from Chicago) and many more! And then there were also al lot of other people we met who didn’t play in bands but were still pretty cool.
