Two Events in the Weekend

On Saturday I will do a DJ-set (my first ever!) at Impakt Open Air (Utrecht). Besides my set there are also short movies, interviews with movie directors, and a BBQ. Bar and BBQ are open from 20:00, the film program starts at 21:00. End time: 0:00. A bus will drive to and from the location (Boerderij Hofstede Terweide, Hogeweide 3), starting in front of Theater Kikker. The bus will ride from 20.00 to 21.00 and from 23.30 to 00.30. Oh, and it’s free!

On Sunday I will participate in a Poetracks event at the literature event Manuscripta in Amsterdam. The set will be broadcast on VPRO. Chop Wood and Macronizm will also play some songs.

Right now I’m working on songs for a soundtrack in the Dutch countryside.
Yet, with almost no workable internet connection I am proud to announce ‘i have done nothing’ a track of my new record.
It has been selected as the opening track on the 3voor12 sampler hollandse nieuwe.

Canada

So, I am off to Canada to play some shows with Neonbelle. We will be playing in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto. We have been invited to play at the Orange House festival with some cool Canadian bands such as The Tiny Circus, and Orange Orange. Hopefully, I will be able to post some pictures of my trip.

En deze persoon nam twee weken terug mijn zang op. Je laat de studio even voor wat hij is en er gebeuren gekke dingen.

Het is altijd tof te merken dat je nog maar 1 persoon tussen iemand zit, die je bewondert of gewoon wel tof vindt. Stephen Malkmus en David Berman bijvoorbeeld, waar onze producer Remko matties mee is.

Maar nu dan ook 50 cent, die misschien wel in dezelfde mic zijn nieuwe hit spitte als waarin ik mijn nieuwe plaatje aan het inzingen ben. Het is natuurlijk niet cool om starstruck te zijn, maar dat waren we wel een beetje toen we deze week weer drie dagen op bezoek waren in de IJland studio om Dawn of The Day, Honestly, What Pleases You The Most, Dance on Time en Throw The Stone op te nemen. De opnames vlotten, vanaf morgen gaan we mixen en daarna gauw masteren. In de tussentijd hebben we thuis nog hard gewerkt aan overdubs.

Ik heb zin om dingen naar de buitenwereld te lekkennnnn, maar wacht tot alles mooi gemixt is. Maar ik kan niet wachten om deze plaat uit te brengen, om weer live te spelen. Vet veel zin in. PF-Unit!

Tomorrow we will play four new songs. We are playing in a somewhat stripped-down setting, so we had to come up with some suitable arrangements. It’s nice to try out these songs in front of a crowd!

To be expected are:

no guitars
keyboards
processed drums

The songs on the setlist are: throw the stone, dirty laundry, i have done nothing, and dance on time.

I did a cover of a sting’s Englishman in New York for coverclub. This time the theme is ‘Guilty Pleasures’. I have always remembered this song for it’s fantastic weird break, which of course I have included in my version as well.

The Silence is Sexy-guys re-edited the original footage of the video’s, so there’s also a youtube clip. Enjoy!

A donate button…. yes, it might be a bit daring but you know, the times they are a-changing. I give away a lot of free music, like the Neonbelle record aswell as the The Very Sexuals record. I do this because I want my music to be accessible and able to be spread around in an easy way. Basically, I just want as many people as possible to get in touch with it and (hopefully) enjoy it.

I also think that holding on to the old ways of selling music is useless and a complete waste of energy. People want music, but are not gonna run to the recordstore anymore, and they won’t pay 16 euro’s a pop. So we have to think of new ways.

Personally, I think downloading is fine, as you also support the artist by merely listening to them. If you really like the artist you could also support them by going to a show, spreading the word, or buying some cd’s. Another option is that you could also donate exactly what you feel you would like to pay for an album. So this is why I have created a donate button on this website.

We are preparing to record a new album right now. I am working an office job to make money for it, but if you would like to help me/us out with the costs that come with a new record or buying equipment feel free to donate some money. It is very much appreciated! As they say in Dutch ”Alle kleine beetjes helpen”, or all little bits help . Our end of the deal? We promise to keep the free downloads coming.
