I did a cover of a sting’s Englishman in New York for coverclub. This time the theme is ‘Guilty Pleasures’. I have always remembered this song for it’s fantastic weird break, which of course I have included in my version as well.

The Silence is Sexy-guys re-edited the original footage of the video’s, so there’s also a youtube clip. Enjoy!

Een paar weken geleden ben ik gevraagd door De Nieuwe Anita om wat gedichten voor te lezen van David Berman. Ook wel bekend als frontman van de band Silver Jews.

Dat leek me wel leuk.

Al ben ik er wel achter gekomen dat poëzie voorlezen, tja, een vak apart is. Dus ik vind het nog wel spannend. Ik doe daarom ook maar wat liedjes van David. Voor de afwisseling, zeg maar.

Het is dus morgen vanaf 20.00 in de nieuwe Anita.

Drum trigger experiments

Today we had a very fun rehearsal. Working on a track called ‘Dance on Time’ which has a very cool Gang Gang Dance/ Ratatat kinda synth sound going on. We also did some drum trigger experiments as you can see on these pictures. Basically you just send sounds from a drum module to these triggers which you can then tape to just about anything. Very cool stuff.

Na twee jaar heimelijk wensen heb ik dan toch eindelijk de bundel van David Berman besteld op Amazon. David Berman is de ietwat pretentieuze moelijke zanger van Silver Jews. Ik denk niet dat ik hem in ‘het echt’ zou mogen maar wat een held. Silver Jews is inmiddels opgeheven omdat David zich meer wil richten op het schrijven van romans en gedichten en touren eigenlijk nooit leuk vond. Deze man is geniaal werkelijk, al is het alleen maar omdat hij de volgende zinnen heeft gemaakt:

So, here is a quick update…

The record is really coming together now.We are starting rehearsals in about two weeks. We are very excited about the new stuff.

Also I am going to play one little show on april the 18th. Its in Amsterdam, @ de culturele bazaar in de Tolhuistuin. It’s just four songs, a chance for us to have a little try out! Michiel Flamman (Solo) and Odilo Girod (the singer of Coparck) will also be playing a few songs. It starts at 20.30.
